Electromechanical delay (EMD) in symmetrical activity of the muscles stabilizing spinal column under static conditions

چکیده
Electromechanical delay (EMD) is defined as the time between electrical excitation of a muscle and the onset of force generation. Duration of this delay for skeletal muscles ranges from 30 to 100ms. EMD has been reported to have effect on a number of mechanisms (Cavanagh and Komi 1979). Some studies report differences in EMD due to gender (Winter and Brookes 1991), age (Grosset et al. 2005), muscle fatigue (Zhou et al. 1996) and immobilization level (Kubo et al. 2000). Others authors have analysed its use for isometric (Kubo et al. 2001) or sprint training (Zhou et al. 1996). However, there are no reports which would relate this phenomenon to the analysis of symmetry in muscle activity. Therefore the authors focused on the investigations aimed at assessment and analysis of bioelectrical activity in the muscles which stabilize spinal column under static conditions. The assessment was made based on the analysis of EMG signal with particular consideration of the duration of electromechanical delay.

Kinesio Taping Applied to Lumbar Muscles in Static Lumbar Flexion
Purpose: In approaching full trunk flexion (75%-80% of full flexion), myoelectric activity of lumbar erector spinae muscles is reduced or silenced; this response is known as flexion-relaxation phenomenon (FRP). FRP is a shift in load sharing and spinal stabilization from active structures (erector spinae muscles) to passive ligamentous and articular structures. Static lumbar flexi...
متن کاملElectromechanical delay of abdominal muscles is modified by low back pain prevention exercise.
The objective of the research was to assess the effect of a 4-week-long training program on selected parameters: electromechanical delay (EMD) and amplitude of electromyographic signal (EMG). Fourteen female students of the University School of Physical Education participated in the study. Torques and surface electromyography were evaluated under static conditions. Surface electrodes were glued...

PURPOSE The aim of the study was to evaluate electromechanical delay (EMD), peak torque (PT) and rate of force development (RFD) in selected muscles of right and left lower extremities in groups of female and male subjects. METHODS The study evaluated 9 volunteer female subjects (mean ± SD: age: 21.67 ± 0.87 years; height: 168 ± 7 cm; body mass: 59.44 ± 4.8 kg) and 10 male university students...
متن کاملBetween-day reliability of electromechanical delay of selected neck muscles during performance of maximal isometric efforts
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to assess the between-day reliability of the electromechanical delay (EMD) of selected neck muscles during the performance of maximal isometric contractions in five different directions. METHODS Twenty-one physically active males participated in two testing sessions separated by seven to eight days. Using a custom-made fixed frame dynamometer, cervical...
متن کاملInfraspinatus Electromechanical Delay on Shoulder Instabilities
Shoulder instability is a major complaint in overhead athletes. The shoulder joint stability is provided mainly by rotator cuff muscles. The Electromechanical Delay (EMD) may be an important parameter in the responsiveness of a muscle. The aim of this study was to measure and compare the infraspinatus EMD in healthy and unstable shoulders and in dominant and non-dominant shoulders. We did not f...
